Matrix Irrigation System

Do I need to use the FloraFlex pots alongside FloraFlex drip lines/irrigation or can I use any pot?
Do I need to use the FloraFlex pots alongside FloraFlex drip lines/irrigation or can I use any pot?
I currently use 3 gal pots with the Round Matrix units and Circulators, what is the difference between the Matrix versus the Micro Drip System?
The Matrix setup is an easier transition to automated watering for those who hand water while the Micro Drippers require a more precise way of watering through increased waterings and less volumes per feeding. See Crop Steering Guides for all FloraFlex pot sizes.
What other components would I need to set up any irrigation system that you sell?
Varies with setup, but the common items would be: ● Reservoir ● Timer or Irrigation controller (If using Nylon Valves or Solenoids) ● Pump ● Grow tray if not using PotPro Platforms. ● Pvc Pipe and Pvc fittings will vary with setup. See How To Grow section of the website for different/relevant infographics.
What size Circulators pair with the 7.5”-9” Matrix and which PotPro size do I use?
The 2.25” Matrix Circulator and any round pot with an inner diameter greater than 9”.
Should I put my filter before or after the Nylon Valve?
Place the filter on the outlet of the Nylon Valve.
What size Circulators pair with the 9”-10.5” Matrix and which PotPro size do I use?
The 2.25” Matrix Circulator and the 3 gallon PotPro.
Place the filter on the outlet of the Nylon Valve.
Optimal psi with all of our systems is between 25-35psi.
What size Circulators pair with the 10.5”-12” Matrix and which PotPro size do I use?
The 3” Matrix Circulator and the 5 gallon PotPro.
How long do I run my FloraFlex irrigation system for?
This will vary with different systems, we recommend placing the drip lines/stakes that would go to one of the plants into a measuring cup, and see how long it takes to achieve your desired volume per feed or irrigation event. At this point you can set your irrigation strategy, please see Crop Steering under the How To Grow section of the website for more insight.
What size Circulators pair with the 12.5”-14.5”” Matrix and which PotPro size do I use?
The 3” Matrix Circulator and any round pot with an inner diameter of greater than 14.5”.
What are the differences between the Micro Drip instead of the Bubbler system?
1. Micro dripper systems are geared towards low volume, high frequency irrigation strategies. We do not recommend running organics or thicker nutrients through this system. 2. Open flow systems are geared towards those wanting to simulate hand watering without hand watering. Higher volume, lower frequency irrigation strategies. Organics and/or thicker nutrients can be used with this setup.
What size Circulators pair with the 15.5”-18”” Matrix and which PotPro size do I use?
The 3” Matrix Circulator and any round pot with an inner diameter of greater than 18”.
Should I install a pressure gauge in my irrigation system?
Yes, installing a pressure gauge at the end of your zone can ensure that the system is running efficiently and within PSI ratings.
Do I use the Open Flow or Multi Flow QDPS (Bubbler) with the Matrix System?
Always use the Open Flow QDPS with the Matrix System to ensure you are able to fill the matrix to the outer rim.
Can the Matrix System be used with soil?
Yes, you can use any medium or substrate.
Does the matrix system work with smart pots or any other pot?
Yes, when using any pot it is recommended to choose a Matrix size that can fit completely inside the pot or within the inner diameter of that pot. Example; If your pot is 11” inner diameter, you will use the 9”-10.5” Matrix.
What are the components or other parts I need to setup the Matrix System?
● Open Flow Quick Disconnect Pipe System (Bubbler) ● ¼” Flora tubing (even lengths throughout the system) ● Matrix ● Matrix Pad (optional) ● Matrix Circulator ● ¼” Barbed T if using the 2.25” Matrix Circulator (can be used without Barbed T, meaning you can run 4 Matrix units per Bubbler)
What is the Matrix Pads and what does it do?
The Matrix Pad is a capillary mat that serves as a wicking pad which helps to disperse water and nutrients throughout the top of the pot's medium and gives a more even feed. It also serves as another barrier against bugs coming in and out of the top of your medium or pot.
Are the Matrix Pads mandatory or necessary?
Though many love them, they are not. The Matrix Pad is a capillary mat that serves as a wicking pad which helps to disperse water and nutrients throughout the top of the pot's medium and gives a more even feed. It also serves as another barrier against bugs or pests coming in and out of the top of your medium or pot.
Can I reuse the Matrix Pads? If so, how many times?
They can be washed and reused, avoid high heat if drying.
