Coco Coir

Is it normal for the runoff water of the QuickFills to be dark when expanding or initially using them?
Yes, the dark color in your runoff is from fine particles of coco peat being in the water.
When expanding the QuickFills should I use just ph’d water or a nutrient solution?
When expanding your organic coco use your regular vegetative nutrient solution. If you do use any, this is also a great time to inoculate your medium with your desired microbials.
Where do I find the batch number on the QuickFill bags?
There is one laser printed number on the lower end of the bag typically underneath the ”QuickFill.”
Are the QuickFills designed to drain, do they have drain holes?
Yes, they have 8 drainage slits.
How many times is QuickFill coco washed?
Our QuickFills are washed 6 times and/or until they are below the 0.6 EC target.
Do QuickFill bags contain Perlite?
What is the EC level of QuickFill coco?
Less than or equal to 0.6 EC
Are QuickFill bags biodegradable?
Are the QuickFills certified organic?
Yes, CDFA and OMRI listed.
Do QuickFills pass heavy metals testing?
Yes, we test each batch for heavy metals.
Are the QuickFills buffered?
How much coco peat is in a 1 gallon QuickFill?
4600 ml
How much coco is in a 2 gallon QuickFill?
13,000 ml
What is the expanded size of the 1 gallon QuickFill?
6” x 6” x 6”
What is the expanded size of the 2 gallon QuickFill?
8” x 8” x 8”
How often should I water the QuickFills?
Please see our How to Grow and Crop Steering Guides on the website.
Is it true that Coco is prone to thrips?
No. As with all grow mediums, if you're overwatering it and/or do not have pest management protocols in place you are subject to pests.
I’m thinking of switching to coco from soil. The feeding schedule looks fairly simple! Is there a day that gets only fresh water?
Always feed nutrients with coco or an inert medium until the final flush. Plain water feeds can throw off the cation exchange.
Does coco coir or peat dry back faster then soil?
Yes, coco coir is a hydroponic growing medium and has a lower water holding capacity (WHC) than most soil blends.
I am using (4) Micro Drippers per 5 gallon PotPro, what is the recommended duration and how often should I feed ?
Being that every strain/genetic, environment, medium is unique in its own way there is no one size fits all for irrigation cycles. 2-6% of your pot’s volume is a good place to start for your irrigation cycle's volume. See Crop Steering Guides under the How To Grow section of the website. Vegetative Style Steering - Mid to Late Veg and Mid Bloom. Feed start time - 1-3 hours after lights on. Shot volume - 2% (380ml) Target dryback - 10-15% Target runoff volume - 10-15% of irrigation volume Target runoff volume - 15-25% of irrigation volume When steering vegetatively you will want irrigation cycles that are 380 ml. If you are aiming for a 10% dryback overnight you will have 5 of these irrigation cycles the next day depending on the ml you water at spaced out every 20-30 minutes until runoff is achieved and then every 1-4 hours after that until 2 hours before lights out or you have a 2-3% dryback (volume may vary). In this example if you see runoff before the 5th irrigation you have not dried back far enough overnight. If you do not see runoff at this point you have dried back too far and need to add cycles later in the day, you can also adjust volumes of irrigation shots. Generative Style Steering - Early Veg, Early Bloom and Late Bloom. Feed start time - 1-3 hours after lights on Irrigation volume - 5% (950ml) Target dryback 25-35% In the early veg stage you may go 1-4 days without an irrigation event to reach target drybacks. When steering generativity you will want irrigation cycles that are 950 ml every 20-60 minutes until runoff is achieved, and then allow for a long overnight dryback. If you are aiming for a 25% overnight dryback you will have 5 of these irrigation cycles achieving runoff (irrigation volumes may vary). In this example if you see runoff before the 5th irrigation you have not dried back far enough overnight. If you do not see runoff at this point you have dried back too far and need to add irrigation cycles earlier in the day.
